"Shining Like The Sun" is the first single from Three Day Flight's current album, "Separate/Same". This is a song that we all need to hear... now more than ever. In a time of conflict, violence, competition, confusion, and despair, "Shining Like The Sun" is so much more than optimism and blind naivete. On the contrary, it is an audacious and perhaps even defiant statement of hope in the face of all that plagues humanity.
The song was inspired by a blog of the same name, written by our friend and mentor... film director Tom Shadyac. His blog was inspired by a mutual influence and mentor, Thomas Merton. In his book, "Conjectures of a Guilty Bystander", Merton tells of an epiphany where, in his words: "I was suddenly overwhelmed with the realization that I loved all these people, that they were mine and I theirs, that we could not be alien to one another even though we were total strangers. It was like waking from a dream of separateness, of spurious self-isolation in a special world. This sense of liberation from an illusory difference was such a relief and such a joy to me that I almost laughed out loud.... "
Merton then went on to say, "And if only everybody could realize this! But it cannot be explained. There is no way of telling people that they are all walking around shining like the sun."
"Shining Like The Sun" is, thus, our bold attempt to do just that...
May we all awaken to the reality that we are all one... "Shining Like The Sun".
